Course outline

The purpose of this course is to enable learners to understand the objectives and legal requirements concerning COVID-19 health and safety in the workplace. The course covers the characteristics and transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, its effects on the human body and the common signs and symptoms of the virus. The role of human behaviour in the transmission of COVID-19 is highlighted. At the end of this course learners will be able to describe transmission routes of the virus and measures they can take to protect themselves and others. The precautionary measures to be taken to prevent the spread of the virus in the workplace are thoroughly investigated.

Pre-requisites:
There is open access to this unit standard. Learners should
•  Hold a GETC or equivalent qualification or
•  Be competent in communication literacy NQF level 2.

•  COVID-19 screening and tests

Unit 2 - The transmission of COVID-19
•  Ways that COVID-19 spreads
•  Fomite transmission
•  Protecting yourself and others

Unit 3 - Risk assessment and COVID-19 in the workplace.
•  Planning and preparing for COVID-19 in the workplace
•  Risk assessment and COVID-19
•  Conducting a risk assessment in the workplace
•  The importance of communicating with employees
•  Identifying levels of exposure
•  Identifying vulnerable workers and special measures for their protection
•  Implementing workplace controls
•  Implementing safe work procedures for COVID-19
•  Recording and reviewing risk assessment
